The ARKK Innovation ETF relative performance

The website media click-bait articles continue with the media spat between Michael Burry and Cathie Wood of ARKK ETF. The ARKK ETF had a great year in 2020. No one is questioning that. In 2021, The ARKK ETF is way under-performing. So, the performance record, of the ARKK, may prove to be spotty at best. The Wood Method of personal stock picking, based on what she thinks is cool, may prove to be a one-off. What the click-bait articles do not do, is analyze the price performance of the ARKK ETF. So here is analysis of the ETF compared to the SPDR S&P 500 Index ETF.

The under-performance of The ARKK relative to the Nasadaq 100 Index ETF (QQQ) is even more dramatic.

Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS)

Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) today gapped up 17%. What will be interesting to see is if Mr. Market looks at this as a sell signal. Today, Dick's P/E Ratio (TTM, GAAP) is 10.57x, about 1/3 of Apple and Microsoft. Dick's is trading way above both The Nasdaq 100 Index (NDX) and way above The S&P 500 Index (SPX) on a 50 day and 200 day relative strength basis.

Analyzing the relative strength of Dick's versus the S&P 500 Index (SPX):  The SPX relative strength moving average (RSMA) 50 day, is trading in excess of 30% over the 200 day. Dicks' compared to The S&P 500 Index relative strength moving average (RSMA) 50 day, is trading in excess of 18% over the 200 day. The initial crossover happened back in July of 2020, followed by numerous breakouts in that context. Stock chart below:

Gold to silver ratio warning

This post is monitoring the trend status of The Gold to Silver Ratio (GSR).

The Gold to Silver Ratio issues advance warnings. These warnings are for things such as stock markets, currency markets, debt markets, the economy, geopolitical chaos. Historian and analyst, Bob Hoye labels the ratio as the “metallic credit spread”. The indication is the relationship and expansion of the numerical spread.

The trend indicators used in this post, on the Gold ETF (GLD) and the Silver ETF (SLV) are relative strength moving averages (RSMA).

The GSR 21 day relative strength moving average - GSR RSMA 21
The GSR 63 day relative strength moving average - GSR RSMA 63

On June 28th the GSR RSMA 21 crossed over the GSR RSMA 63, as shown on the chart below.

Macys (M) gaps up and ...

Macys (M), yesterday and today gaps up, monthly breakout, high volume, trades over the Janury 27th blowoff top at $22.30, and falls back. This may be another text book top...we'll see. Jim Cramer is probably shilling it.

ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK) a cult flagship?

The ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK) is way under-performing the S&P 500 Index. There are some articles posted this week about Michael Burry shorting the ARKK ETF, and Cathie Woods defending the ETF and her strategy. Apparently this is a cult ETF, with Cathie it's leader.

We'll spare you the noise in this post and look at the price action. The ETF is trading way under both the Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQ), and The S&P 500 Index ETF (SPY)..

The ARKK vs. SPY 50 day relative strength moving average is trading 9.1% below the 200 day relative strength moving average. as shown by the stock chart below:
